It takes only a half an hour drive from Murter in a direction of Zadar to reach Vrana lake, the biggest natural lake in Croatia and also a Nature Park, located right next to the sea. It is an important ornithological habitat with many lake bird species nesting there and one that still remains mainly intact. The lake is rich in fish so many leisure time fishermen come there as well. Turbulent history of Vrana resulted in many interesting monuments so today the visitors can experience a bit of past times at the restored Maškovća Han, the most western example of Ottoman profane architecture, and at the Benedictine monastery from the 9th century. A bit of mystery is added by the fact that Templar knights used to dwell here as well.
